THE CHURCHYARD AND SEPULCHRAL CHAPEL
The churchyard at Tretten has a reputation of being both well cared for and beatutiful. When the church was built in 1728, the churchyard was considerably smaller. Since then it has been enlarged on several occasions. The last enlargement to place around 1980. The separate sepulchral chapel is from 1937 and was donated by Johannes and Eli Fossli. Below the chapel is the coffin room, which was restaurated and got a new entrance in 1997. The painting of Christ hanging in the coffin room is by Arve Hagen and was moved from the first floor of the chapel. Until the 1960's most funerals took place from the chapel. When electric heating was installed in the church it became natural to conduct funerals from the church itself. Source: Vår Frelsers Kirke på Tretten, Tretten parish council 1978
