ØYER PARISHØyer parish belongs to Hamar diocese and consists of two sub-parishes, Øyer and Tretten. Both have churches from the early 1700-hundreds. ØYER PARISH OFFICEThe parish office is responsible for the daily management of the churches and the parishes in Øyer and Tretten. The office handles appointments for baptisms, weddings and burials and answers questions related to these ceremonies and other questions about the parish. The parish office also sells flowercards (for burials) and cards with motifs from the churches, for the benefit of the parish work. JOINT PARISH COUNCILThe joint parish council is responsible for facilitating cooperation between the parishes, manage the economy and properties and take formal care of the employees in a way that serves the parishes. The arrangement with a joint parish council is of recent date, only in 1997 it became mandatory to have such a council in parishes with more than one congregation. The joint parish council is the responsible employer for the employees of the parish and represents the parish in matters pertaining to the churches, the churchyards and the parish office. It also has planning- and budgetary responsibilities towards the local authorities. The joint council consists of members from the two parish councils, the local authorities and the diocese. Members of Øyer joint parish council THE PARISH COUNCILSThere are two parish councils in Øyer, one for Øyer og one for Tretten. The parish councils are responsible for religious activity, tuition, deacony, church music, letting of the church, donations and other mandatory tasks in their parish. The members are elected for a period of four years among members of the church living in the parish. The elections take place in the same years as the elections for the Storting (Norwegian parliament, last election in 2001).
